Florida Gulf Coast University Vice President of Student Engagement Announced as Third Candidate for Vice President of Student Affairs


Brian Fisher is scheduled to meet with students and the NIU community on Monday.

FromKALB – NIU announced Brian Fisher as the third nominee in its search for the next Vice President of Student Affairs.

Fisher will visit DeKalb while serving as associate vice president of student engagement at Florida Gulf Coast University. He joined the FGCU in 2006 and has held his current position since 2018.

Prior to his current role, Fisher served as Associate Director of the Office of Housing and Residence Life from 2006 to 2009. He was later promoted to Director in the same department, where he remained until 2018. .

Fisher earned his first two degrees from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Honors in 1993 and then a Master of Science in Higher Education in 1995.

Fisher’s final post-secondary education was at Florida International University in Miami. He earned a doctorate in education in higher education in 2007. Fisher spent the time between his master’s and doctoral degrees serving in the Office of Residence Housing and Life at the University of Alabama (1995 -1997) and at the FIU (1997-2006).

Fisher’s list of honors and accomplishments dates back to his time at FSU. He attended the Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference on Nonviolence in 1992 and 1993. His most recent achievement came in 2021 when he received a leadership training certificate from Right Management, a global talent management.

An open forum featuring Fisher will take place Monday from 3-4 p.m. in Altgeld Hall 200. A community forum will begin shortly after at 4:15 p.m. at the same location.
