Grab announces new scholarship program to provide underprivileged children with college scholarships and education grants


Grab announces two new initiatives to drive inclusive growth in Southeast Asia during the official opening of its headquarters in Singapore. Stretching over nine floors and over 42,000 m², it brings together around 3,000 Grabbers and an R&D center under one roof.

New initiatives include a US$1 million GrabScholar program to provide scholarships to students across Southeast Asia, and a new GrabMerchant center to help small businesses grow online.

GrabScholar program

Grab agrees to pay $1 million a year to the GrabForGood Fund to the GrabScholar program, which will provide college scholarships and scholarships in all countries Grab operates in Southeast Asia.

The GrabScholar program plans to award more than 2,000 scholarships and fellowships annually. It will cover tuition fees and education-related expenses for disadvantaged children to attend primary, secondary or vocational schools as well as universities.

Internship opportunities will also be offered to higher education students to develop their professional skills and prepare them for full-time positions upon graduation.

GrabScholar was already launched in Indonesia in July 2022 in partnership with Yayasan Benih Baik Indonesia. This is in addition to existing scholarship initiatives that are offered to the children of Grab’s partner drivers, delivery people and merchants in Singapore and Thailand. This has helped to open up access to quality education and transform lives locally. The new regional GrabScholar program is an expanded effort to support wider communities across Southeast Asia.

Grab Merchant Center

Grab will soon be launching its first-ever GrabMerchant Center to provide one-on-one business consulting services to our SME merchant partners. It will be located at Grab HQ @ Singapore.

GrabMerchant Center is a one-stop hub dedicated to helping small businesses optimize their online presence, maximize GrabFood, GrabMart, GrabFin and GrabAds services for their businesses, and learn how to use digital tools to grow.

GrabMerchant Center provides a suite of services:

One-on-one business consultation with Grab account managers

Partner merchants can leverage Grab’s network in Southeast Asia, access data insights and a multi-vertical ecosystem. Account managers will provide dedicated consultations to advise on long-term growth plans and provide actionable business insights to help partner merchants take it to the next level.

One-on-one business consultations were piloted earlier this year, with success stories of how the insights provided helped small businesses increase their volume of online delivery business.

Priority operational support

Merchants can subscribe to the Merchant Concierge Service, a priority hotline for direct assistance with any operational issues. This keeps their delivery business running smoothly and reduces downtime.

Workshops and networking

The GrabMerchant Center will hold regular refresher workshops to help merchant partners keep abreast of the latest industry trends and developments. These will also serve as networking sessions to facilitate business connections and a small business community for collective learning.

It launched its first-ever GrabMerchant Open Day on August 5, 2022, which was well received by partner merchants.

In addition to the first GrabMerchant Center, the new headquarters will also house the digibank team. The headquarters is one of two Grab headquarters in the region. The dual headquarters is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and serves as Grab’s regional innovation center for small businesses.
