Keizer University student arrested for possession of weapon on school property

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A man was arrested Saturday for possessing a weapon on school property in West Palm Beach.

According to West Palm Beach police, 22-year-old Willie Gibson is from Zion, Illinois.

Police received a call from Keizer University staff saying a school investigation led to the discovery of a handgun and two magazines in a student’s on-campus dormitory at 2600 N Military Trail.

The weapon, a 10mm Glock pistol and a standard 15-round and 30-round high-capacity magazine, along with ammunition, were recovered from his room.

Gibson admitted to owning the gun and said he brought it with him from Illinois for “protection”.

Gibson was also in possession of two ski goggles which were not confiscated.

He cooperates with the investigation and faces one count of possession of a weapon on school property, a third degree felony.

He was held at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Main Detention Center.

In his first court appearance on Saturday morning, Gibson received a no-contact order regarding his dormitory, but can return to school on Monday for an administrative hearing. He can go back to his dormitory after the hearing if the school allows it. He is also prohibited from possessing weapons.
