‘Maybe try Trump University:’ ‘Catholic’ SLU student employees shame parents over ‘sex allowance’ worries

From: Austin Reeder

Freshman guidance officials at a Catholic university in St. Louis chastised parents who criticized ‘sex allowances’ and LGBTQ+ advocacy, with one student employee going so far as to suggest a mother withdraw enrolling his son and sending him to ‘Trump University’ instead – according to advice received through Young America’s Foundation’s Campus Bias Advice Line.

Tensions ran high in a parent’s Facebook group when a parent anonymously voiced concerns about some recent posts by other parents of incoming freshmen at Saint Louis University.

“I’m troubled by the number of posts related to ‘sex allowances’ and LGBT advocacy,” the relative said. “It’s a Catholic institution, isn’t it?”

These “sex allowances” refer to money given to a student in order to purchase items such as condoms, Plan B, among others.

One particularly troubling message comes from Randall Jenkins, a parent who has sought advice from other parents on how much money he should provide his stepson each week to buy ‘reproductive justice’ supplies in light of the recent knockdown of Roe against Wade.

“How’s the sex scene on campus?” Jenkins begins. “Is $15 a week too much or not enough?”

The backlash came immediately, but not in the direction one would expect.

Rather than criticize the father who inquired about young adult sexual activity, staff at the Student Engagement Center lashed out at the anonymous parent who expressed concern over the father’s extremely inappropriate question.

“SLU is very welcoming and does not push [C]Catholic values on their students. We are LGBTQ+ advocates with many clubs, organizations, and resources and have outside gender-related resources,” wrote Kelci Crandall, who is one of SLU’s Orientation Leaders.

“This is a school where a student should not be discouraged from being himself [sic],” she continued.

After another parent expressed concerns about the inappropriate question, Sarah Berret, who also serves as an orientation manager, suggested that the mother “reconsider if SLU is the right choice for your family.”

“Maybe try Trump University,” she added.

YAF has independently verified the validity of these Facebook group posts.

Saint Louis University has made it clear that it does not tolerate Catholic and conservative values. If they want to continue promoting LGBTQ+ and sex-positive “values,” maybe it’s time they reconsider their Catholic affiliation.
