Those interested in becoming a pediatric nurse can now enroll in a new course at Wrexham Glyndwr University.
Childhood nursing is a rewarding profession that cares for children, youth and their families from birth to adulthood.
The BN (Hons) degree will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to become an NMC licensed and registered nurse.
The degree, which is Registered Children’s Nurse, is a brand new program developed to meet the Future Nurse standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2018). The course includes 50 percent clinical practice and 50 percent theory.
Wrexham Glyndwr was recently ranked first in the UK for Adult Nursing for Overall Student Satisfaction in this year’s National Student Survey (NSS). The university has also been successful in securing the Wales Health Education and Improvement Commission (HEIW) to launch an exciting group of new nursing and paramedical training including the new nursing course for children.
Program Manager Karen Griffiths said, “There is a range of experiences among the staff here that students can build on, and this course opens up a real career path to becoming a pediatric nurse.
“The program is very person-centered and there is a blended learning approach.”
As part of the course, practical placements in various hospital and community settings allow you to discover a range of learning opportunities. Placement support is provided by practice supervisors and assessors, as well as an academic assessor and practical training facilitators.
The modules are designed to allow the integration of theory into practice. Family and child centered care is included everywhere.
Child domain-specific learning early on will give you the opportunity to learn about the care needs of children, youth and their families, as well as shared learning across domains of nursing. for children, adults and mental health on common themes relevant to all.
The HEIW commission means that scholarships may be available for eligible students who commit to work in Wales after graduation. This scholarship would cover the cost of their studies. Other potential students may wish to finance their studies through a student loan.
