PEOPLE who wish to study at university but do not yet have the entry qualifications can discover alternative routes at a series of open days.

Leicester Adult Education College, Belvoir Street, organizes events to promote its popular higher education entry courses.

Open Days will provide an introduction to courses which can provide a fast track for people who have been out of school for some time and have little or no formal qualifications.

Access degrees are offered in social sciences and business and alumni have received college offers on courses ranging from accounting, consulting and sports coaching to criminology, psychology and law. A pre-diploma access course is also offered for those who are not quite ready for Level 3 and want to hone their writing and study skills. It will offer a taste of business and sociology to help decide which is the best way forward.

The next courses for access to higher education will start in September 2022.

Rebekah Stevenson, Curriculum Coordinator at Leicester Adult Education College, said: “The Access courses we offer are a great way to learn alongside other adult students and build the skills, confidence and the qualifications needed to prepare for a successful next step in university education. .”

“Our Open Days are a great way to get a taste of available courses and subjects, hear from staff and students, and learn about funding and fees.”

Katie O’Meara, from Braunstone, studied the Higher Education Access course. At the end of her course, she said: “Before enrolling in the course, I had no career ambitions and never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would go to university.

“The support I had was amazing. I recently received university offers for every course I applied for and my firm choice was accepted. I now know what career I want to go into and am focused on my future. I would definitely recommend the Higher Education Access Course as it could be the start of a new chapter.

Activities will take place at the college – from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. – on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, June 28
  • Thursday June 30
  • Thursday July 7
    Thursday, September 1
  • tuesday september 6
  • Thursday, September 8
  • tuesday september 13

Anyone interested in starting a higher education access course will be invited to

undertake an informal assessment to help decide which course is most appropriate. This must be booked in advance and will take up to an hour.

Alternative arrangements can be made for anyone unable to attend scheduled sessions.
